Woman's Purse Auction FundraiserThe annual Woman's Purse Auction, which stands as UWAC's most significant fundraising event of the year, attracts participants from across the county and beyond. Attendees place bids on a selection of new and gently used designer handbags generously donated by residents of Adams County. Proceeds from the auction benefited the County's Independent Living Program, as well as UWAC's Ready to Learn early learning enrichment initiative.
VITAVITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) assists individuals from low-income households, seniors over 60, and members of the local Hispanic community by offering complimentary tax preparation services through a team of trained volunteers. This initiative is in partnership with the Adams County Office for Aging and the Manos Unidas Hispanic American Center. Ultimately, the program has facilitated the return of over $ million in refunds to clients, thereby reinvigorating our local economy.
Bag the Bounty Food DrivePartnering with Weis Markets, Gettysburg Times, and ACNB Bank, UWAC gathers thousands of pounds of non-perishable food and essential items for the annual Bag the Bounty Food Drive. These contributions ARE allocated to various food programs in Adams County to replenish their supplies for the winter season.
Annual Day of CaringOn our annual Day of Caring, teams of volunteers will dedicate their time to various projects and tasks at local non-profit organizations. Dozens of volunteers donate their time to support Adams County.
Annual Give.Advocate.VolunteerThe annual Give.Advocate.Volunteer Celebration held in June recognized various local charities, contributors, and volunteers, highlighting the With Heart in Hands Awards. These awards were presented to community volunteers who have demonstrated exceptional dedication in supporting local causes and charitable organizations. Give it Up For GoodIn partnership with Gettysburg College, at the end of each academic year, Gettysburg College Facilities Services and the United Way of Adams County coordinate the Give It Up for Good Sale. Students donate reusable items as they move out in May, and everything is sold for below-thrift-store prices to benefit the United Way and offer affordable goods to the community.
Community EventsThroughout the year we host events that give back to the community like our annual Breakfast with Santa which benefits children’s programs at United Way of Adams County.

Our goal is to help create a better life for all, focusing on the building blocks of a good life – education, income, and health. We invite community organizations to join us in this effort. We seek to fund partners that have programs that will most effectively help people gain access to educational, economic, and health related opportunities.
