Trisha has a 3.75 GPA at HACC and will receive her degree in the spring. So exciting, but it almost didn’t happen. She is a foster youth who never dreamed that college was possibility. Thanks to a gift made to UWAC, her books were paid for to help her realize her dream of becoming a teacher.

The Holiday Shopping Spree, hosted by Barbara Ernico and the Adams County Community Foundation, gives you the opportunity to find that perfect something for the hard-to-buy-for someone on your gift list that benefits organizations like UWAC throughout the county.

If you can’t imagine giving Dad one more gift card or Mom another scarf, you can buy sports equipment for children and their Big Brothers or Big Sisters. Or your children can buy meals for homebound seniors from the Office for Aging in honor of their grandparents. Or you could help support a foster youth like Trisha through a gift to United Way.

The possibilities of finding that perfect gift are endless: each organization participating in the Shopping Spree will have a variety of gifts at every price point that will bring comfort and hope to a county resident or family. You can visit with the organizations at the event or all gifts are listed in the 2013-2014 Gift Book given to each attendee. The book can be mailed to you if you are unable to attend, or they are available at all of the participating organizations and event sponsor locations; contact the Foundation at 717-337-0060.

The Shopping Spree will be held on Tuesday, December 3, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Atrium, Ballroom and Stevens Room of the Gettysburg Hotel. There will be delicious sandwiches, sweets and beverages offered to shoppers, who will also be entertained by local musicians.

The event would not be possible without the vision of Barbara Ernico and the Foundation, and the event sponsors: Kennie’s Markets, Graphcom Inc., APM Building Materials, Hockley & O’Donnell Insurance Agency, and Gettysburg Times Publishing LLC.

Participating organizations are: Adams County Arts Council, Adams County Children & Youth ILP Program, Adams County Historical Society, Adams County Library System, Adams County Literacy Council, Adams County Office for Aging, Adams County SPCA, Adams Rescue Mission, Bermudian Springs School District, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Adams County, Children’s Aid Society, Collaborating for Youth, Courage House, East Berlin Community Library, Family First Health, Gettysburg C.A.R.E.S., Gettysburg Children’s Choir, Gettysburg Community Soup Kitchen, Gettysburg Community Theater, Gettysburg Garden Club, Healthy Adams Bicycle Pedestrian Action Coalition, Healthy Adams County, Hoffman Homes, Holiday Family Outreach, Interfaith Center for Peace and Justice, Manos Unidas Hispanic American Center, Mediation Services of Adams County, Mission of Mercy, PA Tourette Syndrome Association, Project Gettysburg/Leon, Shining Stars Therapeutic Riding Program, Skills of Central PA, South Central Community Action Programs, Special Olympics PA/Adams County, Strawberry Hill Foundation, Survivors, United Cerebral Palsy of South Central PA, United Way of Adams County, Upper Adams School District Canner Fund, and YWCA Gettysburg & Adams County.
